Volunteers with Disabilities
Giving Back, Job Training, Helping Others
Volunteering at Wonder Works is a great way to make a difference in the lives of young children and their families. Wonder Works has been working with volunteers with physical and developmental disabilities for many years through supported volunteer programs.
If you like being out in front as a leader, you can
Help guide activities during fun and educational events
Work in the museum, interacting with children and their adults, while maintaining the exhibits.
Lead story times and sing-alongs in Lights, Camera, Action!
If you prefer to work behind the scenes, you can
Plan and prep for special events, including the creation of props and bulk materials
Disinfect and clean museum pieces and props
Fold brochures and stuff envelopes
Wonder Works has a long history of successfully working with volunteers with developmental and physical disabilities through our supported volunteer program. Wonder Works partners with organizations such as UCP-Sequin and Oak-Leyden Developmental Services. These organizations place volunteers, with job support, at the museum. After an interview process, which includes a site visit, volunteers are placed into various volunteer roles. These placements are based on input from the Volunteer, Wonder Works' team members and support personnel.
