Parties

General Party Policies

Policy

General Guidelines

  • Parties are recommended for children from birth to six years old
  • Children under twelve months are always free at Wonder Works
  • Wonder Works is shoe free, adults and children are required to remove their shoes and wear socks in the museum
  • Decorations are allowed. Non-latex balloons are preferred. Hanging decorations require blue painter's tape. Any decorations left at Wonder Works will be recycled/discared immediately after the party
  • Parties cover the specified number of guests, anyone over the guest limit is $6 per person, regardless of membership status

Scheduling

  • Scheduling is done on a first come, first served basis, is dependant on availability and based on our party schedule
  • A non-refundable deposit of $50 is required to schedule a semi-private party or $100 for the private parties, no parties will be held without the non-refundable deposit
  • You may schedule your party in person at the museum, over the phone by calling 708.383.4815 or by filling out and mailing/faxing the party form
  • Parties cancelled before the party date can be rescheduled, or the deposit may be used towards other museum services

Payment

  • A non-refundable deposit is due at booking, the remaining balance is due the day of the party
  • Wonder Works accepts cash, checks, Visa, Discover, MasterCard and American Express
  • A refund of anything paid in excess of required deposit will be issued if a party cancels prior to the party date

Food and Drink

  • Wonder Works does not provide food of any kind
  • You may have food supplied from the vendor of your choosing
  • Alcohol, peanuts and tree nuts are not allowed

Supervision

  • Adults are responsible to directly supervise their children at all times
  • If children are dropped off at parties, the party hosts are responsible for supervising the children
  • Unruly guests may be asked to leave

Provisions

  • Wonder Works provides basic place settings, which include cups, 6" plates, 9" plates, forks, spoons and napkins (all white or clear), in-addition, we provide tablecoverings in the colors of your choice
  • Wonder Works provides a party ambassador to help you with your party, including arrival, set-up, clean-up and serving
  • Wonder Works does NOT provide serving utensils, candles, lighters, knives of any kind or carry out containers

Parking

  • Parking is available in the lot on the south side of the building, on Elmwood north of the alley, or on North Avenue (metered)
  • Additional parking is available on Elmwood Ave, south of the alley starting at 10am and is limited to 2 hours, Monday through Saturday

Semi-Private Party Policies

General Guidelines

  • Parties are scheduled for one hour in the party room, the party times can be found here
  • Parties give all day admission to the museum between open and close that day
  • Party options, like facepainting, are done outside of the one hour party room time
  • All party guests are required to remove their shoes and wear socks in the museum, waived for guests who require shoes for medical reasons

Party Room

  • The semi-private party room seats a maximum of 20 children and fits a maximum of 30 people
  • Adult seating can be provided, but will displace some child seating
  • If you are expecting more than 30 guests, consider a private party

Arrival

  • Upon arrival to the museum, you and all your guests are required to check in at the front desk; the front desk will hold your party supplies and gifts until the room is ready
  • For safety reasons, party guests cannot congregate in the lobby, the lobby must remain clear at all times

Departure

  • Parties will be given a 15 minute notice before the end of their party room time
  • The party room should be clear of gifts, food and decorations at the end of the scheduled party room time
  • Upon leaving the museum, please ensure all children are accounted for
  • Any food or decorations left in the museum after the party departs will be recycled or discarded

Private Party Policies

General Guidelines

  • Parties are scheduled for a minimum of two hours, additional time can be scheduled for $50 / 30 minutes
  • Party options, like facepainting, are done during the party time
  • Parties have full access to the museum and partyroom for their entire party
  • All party guests are required to remove their shoes and wear socks in the museum, waived for guests who require shoes for medical reasons
  • Party guests cannot be in the museum before the start of, or after the end of a Private Party, except the Sunday morning party, when guests can stay after 12pm

Party Room

  • The party room seats a maximum of 40 people, typically 24 children and 16 adults
  • Additional seating can be provided, but will displace some of the Build-It experience

Arrival

  • Upon arrival to the museum, please check in at the front desk
  • All guests are required to check into the front desk upon arrival to the museum
  • The party family and their helpers can arrive up to 30 minutes before the start of the party for set-up; however, parties starting at 5:30pm can arrive up to 15 minutes early for set-up
  • Party guests, including children, cannot enter the museum prior to the start of the party

Departure

  • Parties will be given a 15 minute notice before the end of their party
  • All children must vacate the museum at the end of the party, or the party will be charged for extra time at $50 / 30 minutes
  • Party families have up to 30 minutes of clean-up time at no charge, no children can be in the museum during this time
  • Any food or decorations left in the museum after the party departs will be recycled or discarded
