Wonder Works, a Children's Museum in Oak Park is a 501c3 registered
non-profit organization, as such we depend on volunteers to
help us in many different areas. If you want to lend us a

In-house volunteers
Birthday Party Facilitator
- The responsibilities include blowing up the balloons, setting up the room, bring food and drinks to and from refrigerator, cleaning up after the party and helping the birthday party parents with anything they need.
Art Room Facilitator
- The responsibilities include keeping the art room clean and stocked as well as working with the kids either helping them with the weeks craft or help them with their own craft.
Floor Staff Assistant
- This person will be helping the floor staff to keep the floor clean. This will mostly be picking up and cleaning up after our visitors as well as playing with children who are playing alone or are in need of adult attention.
Special Events
- This person would either facilitate activities during special events or help with the clean up and set up of the special events.
Play Time Expert
- This person would be responsible for insuring all guest are having a wonderful time at the museum, by suggesting and creating special activities for the older kids as well as special spurt of the moment games and activities for all kids in the museum.
Office Assistant
- This person would be helping either in the office or at the front desk with filing, envelope stuffing, and any other office help which might be needed.
Story Time Reader
- The museum offers Story Time on a regular basis, this person would pick out several stories from the Wonder Works library and read them to the museum visitors.

Ways to help outside the Museum
Out-of-House volunteers
Distributing Fliers
- Prior to a special event, fliers need distribution around the different communities that we cater to, as well as to the public school. Each volunteer would have an assigned area to cover.
Block Parties
- This is minimum a 2 ½ hour shift. Wonder Works is looking into working Block Parties. The responsibilities are bringing supplies to the block party, setting up and facilitating the two games/activities and one craft that the party picked, cleaning up after, and bringing the supplies back to the museum.
Special Events
- This person would either facilitate activities during special events or help with the clean up and set up of the special events outside of the museum.
Committees and Board Members
- Wonder Works is run by volunteers. We have a volunteer Board of Directors as well as several committees to assist in the running of Wonder Works. There is a Fund Raising Committee, Gala Committee, Finance Committee, Education Committee as well as the Board of Directors who help steer Wonder Works into the future.
