Late Winter Session Classes Schedule Announced at Wonder Works

Classes promote creativity and sensory stimulation key to a child's early development

Oak Park, Illinois - January 27, 2009 - Wonder Works, a Children's Museum in Oak Park, announced today that registration is open for Late Winter Session Classes. Encouraging creative play, classes run from February 2 to March 28, and are available for children ages six months to six years with an adult.

With nearly fifty percent of children's learning taking place in the first four years of their lives - most occurring within the first eighteen months - the introduction of creativity and sensory stimulation plays a key role in early development.

"Studies show that exercise and learning in nurturing environments accelerates that process," says Mary Bodlak, Executive Director at Wonder Works, "children are inquisitive by nature, and we seek to build upon that healthy foundation."

From creative play to music, arts and crafts, and even Super Saturday, Wonder Works will feature such interactive and exploration activities including:

  • Creative Play - From Bouncing Babies and Tremendous Toddlers to Jumpin' Juniors and Moovin' and Groovin', classes are arranged for children from six months to fours years of age, and will include music-related activities and exercises that expand your child's range of movement by providing sensory stimulation, mobility and self-awareness.
  • Music - Featuring such music-oriented classes as Music for Little Ones, Terrific Tunes, Threes on Key and Family Music, classes are arranged for children six months to four years of age and are designed to activate your child's motor skills and social interaction using stories, rhyming songs, finger plays and games.
  • Arts and Crafts - Introduce the world of art to your child with such classes as Exploring Art for Little Ones, Crafts for Two, Partners in Crafts and Family crafts. Classes are arranged for children from 18 months to six years of age. Activities are created around the exploration of different mediums and textures, while providing your child with different artistic media - sand, modeling compound, paint and other art materials.
  • Super Saturday - Beginning with musical instruments and stories, Super Saturday incorporates free play, organized activities and craft projects based on the week for children one-and-a half years of age to four years of age.

Register now by mail, online, or phone. Registration is on a first come, first served basis and will continue through the session until classes are full.
