Wonder Works, a Childrens Museum in Oak Park, Names Executive Director
August 2, 2002 - Wonder Works, a Childrens Museum in Oak Park, has named Monica Garcia as Executive Director. Garcia will work with the museums board of directors to prepare for a fall 2002 opening.
A resident of Chicagos Humboldt Park neighborhood, Garcia most recently served as Community Outreach Director for The Suzuki-Orff School for Young Musicians. The programs, which provide music education for children around Chicago, help nurture creativity and self-expression, develop critical thinking skills and promote parental involvement as an integral part of the learning experience.
In Wonder Works, Garcia sees an organization whose goals are similar to those of the Suzuki-Orff programs. "Wonder Works is going to be an amazing educational resource for children, parent/caregivers and educators in the near west suburbs as well as the west and north sides of Chicago," she says. "The museum will offer children and adults a magical environment designed to encourage and inspire the developmental of inquiry, expression and imaginative skills."
Childrens museums are rich places that cultivate and expose children to hands-on learning experiences and foster lifelong learning. Wonder Works, a Childrens Museum in Oak Park, will provide high-quality, affordable, educational activities to all families, educational institutions, day-care centers and other organizations in Oak Park and the surrounding communities.
