Wonder Works to Celebrate Earth Day with Earth-Friendly Activities April 20-22

Oak Park, Illinois - March 28, 2006 - Join Wonder Works, a Children's museum in Oak Park, to help save our planet, or at least explore creative ways we can help, as we celebrate Earth Day. Beginning Thursday, April 20 through Saturday, April 22, kids can learn about the natural world and how to protect it.

On Thursday and Friday, Eric the Nature Expert will help kids and families connect to the outside world right in their own backyard. Activities will include dig for bugs, play with natural materials in a miniature tabletop backyard and search for natural treasures in our salted sandbox.

On Friday and Saturday, activities will focus on the larger world and how to help save the planet. Kids can plant seed, meet an organic farmer, pet animals and make recycled paper, among other activities. Vicki Westerhoff from Genesis Growers will be at the museum on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Educational materials will be provided by Seven Generations Ahead, an Oak Park-based sustainability organization.

"Our goal for earth day is to help children understand their impact on the earth by using art, hand-on demonstrations, and exploratory materials," says Executive Director Elizabeth Smith. "By understanding their own roles, they will become advocates for saving the earth as early as possible."
