A Children’s Museum in Oak Park, Illinois

A Letter from John Harris,

What a wonderful time we had celebrating the fourth birthday of Wonder Works, a Children's Museum in Oak Park, on November 3. We are proud to say that we surpassed the results of previous years and raised more than $30,000 to support the non-profit museum that fosters creativity in our youngest children.

Thank you to gala co-chairs Michelle Arnold and Anne Klassman for their tremendous effort, and to their committee for throwing a wonderful party. Thank you also to Ariel Capital, Whole Foods Market, the Cargie Family, Community Bank of Oak Park and River Forest, a5 Inc, 3d Health Inc, Dwight Atchley of Edward Jones, Marijane and Tim Brangle, Dawn and Duane Glossa, Senator Tom Harmon and Theresa Harmon, Tom Mallon, Michelle Arnold and Paul Martin, The Klassman Zimberoff Family, Ellen and Michael Griffin, Sharon and James Madura, Bob and Mary Oakleaf and Elizabeth and Rob Harano for sponsoring the evening, and to chef Ron Martin for preparing the food. We would also like to recognize the other generous food and beverage donors: Alliance Paper and Food Service, The Buzz Café, Catering by Michael's, Dawn Glossa, Edible Arrangements, Food for Thought, Goose Island, Papaspiros, The Pasta Shoppe & Café, The Perfect Dinner, Starbucks on Lathrop, Pacific Wine Partners, Sam Adams, TGI Friday's and Carriage Fl ower and Gift Shop. Special thanks also to the 150 guests who helped us celebrate that night.

We are grateful to children's musician and advocate Jim Gill, recipient of our Children First award this year, and to State Senator Don Harmon for their support of children and creativity. And the celebration would not have happened without the ongoing support of the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, the Irving B. Harris Foundation, the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, the Eugene P. Beard and Nancy Jones Beard Foundation, the State of Illinois DCEO, the Illinois Arts Council, the Oak Park Arts Council, the Oak Park Women's Guild, Radio Flyer, and the outstanding group of individuals that make up our Board.

While the amount of work that goes into a fundraiser is enormous, it is energizing because it validates the work we do on behalf of children and families. Truly, imagination can unlock the future for children, and we are proud to have such tremendous support to help Wonder Works fulfill its mission of helping all children learn to use their imagination through play.

Thank you, all.
